For many of us, the most important dinners of the year are just around the corner. Those who cook holiday dinners at home may give thanks for today’s sensible culinary trend…simplicity. Today’s trend is the simpler the better.

Some of the dishes we make may be family favorites, which have been served for many years. Familiar, yes. Boring, no. Whether you stick with “Treasured Family” recipes or something new, everyone should remember the true meaning of these holidays. These are times for being with family and friends as well as sharing wonderful food together.

With the holidays often comes the need for sauces of all types..from simple gravies to elegant ones such as Beurre Blanc. We must not forget these can be the colorful fall centerpiece sitting in the center of your Thanksgiving table or the star on the Christmas tree. With the help of your microwave, one thing is for sure…your stirring arm won’t get tired as it sometimes does with conventional cooking. For this season of festive cooking, use your microwave and see how fast and easy it is to make thickened sauces. It may also be your best “cook’s assistant” to help you with other foods such as vegetables and desserts.
